Swedish Household Consumption Rises at Softer Pace
Sweden's household consumption rose 0.2 percent from a month earlier in October 2019, easing from a 0.8 percent increase in September, as spending on transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles rose at a slower pace (0.4 percent vs 2.9 percent) and that on housing, electricity, gas and heating was unchanged (vs 0.5 percent in September). In addition, declines were seen in retail trade, clothing and footwear (-1.5 percent vs 2.7 percent), recreation and culture, goods and services (-1.5 percent vs 3.2 percent) and restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services (-0.2 percent vs -1.6 percent). Meanwhile, upward pressure came from retail trade, mostly food and beverages (1.0 percent vs 0.3 percent), furniture, furnishings, household equipment and consumables (1.1 percent vs -0.1 percent), post and telecommunications (0.8 percent vs -0.5 percent), and other goods and services (3.5 percent vs -2.3 percent).

Sweden's household consumption increased 0.8 percent from a month earlier in September 2019, the same pace as in the prior month, boosted by spending on recreation and culture, goods & services (3.1 percent vs 0.2 percent in August); transport and retail sales & service of motor vehicles (2.8 percent vs 1.4 percent); retail trade, clothing & footwear (2.9 percent vs -0.9 percent) and food and beverages (0.5 percent, after showing no growth in August). In contrast, there were declines in consumption of restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services (-0.8 percent vs 0.4 percent); other goods and services (-0.7 percent vs 1.5 percent); furniture, furnishings, household equipment & consumables (-0.7 percent vs -1.9 percent) and post and telecommunications (-0.1 percent vs 1.1 percent). Year-on-year, household consumption advanced 3.7 percent, up from 2.7 percent in the prior month.

Sweden's household consumption increased 0.8 percent from a month earlier in August 2019, following a revised 0.5 percent growth in July, boosted by spending on restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services (2.1 percent vs -1.8 percent), recreation and culture, goods and services (0.2 percent vs -1.4 percent), post and telecommunications (3.5 percent vs 5.3 percent), transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles (0.4 percent, the same as in July) and other goods and services (2.5 percent vs 1.1 percent). In contrast, there were declines in consumption of furniture, furnishings, household equipment and consumables (-1.6 percent vs 6.2 percent) and clothing and footwear (-0.6 percent vs 0.6 percent).

Sweden's household consumption increased 0.8 percent from a month earlier in July of 2019, recovering from a revised flat reading June. Spending rebounded for housing, electricity, gas and heating (0.5 percent vs -0.9 percent in June); furniture, furnishings, household equipment and consumables (2.0 percent vs -1.4 percent); post and telecommunications (4.3 percent vs -1.4 percent) and recreation and culture, goods and services (1.4 percent vs -0.4 percent). On the other hand, consumption fell for retail trade, mostly food and beverages (-0.1 percent vs 1.5 percent) and restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services (-0.6 percent vs 0.6 percent). On a yearly basis, household consumption increased 4.9 percent, following a 3.0 percent rise in June.

Sweden's household consumption increased 0.2 percent from a month earlier in June of 2019, recovering from an upwardly revised 1 percent fall in May. Spending rebounded for retail trade, mostly food and beverages (1.8 percent vs -3 percent in May); clothing and footwear (2.9 percent vs -5.1 percent) and transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles (0.7 percent vs -2.2 percent). On the other hand, consumption fell for furniture, furnishings, household equipment and consumables (-1 percent vs 2 percent) and other goods and services (-5.7 percent vs 7.3 percent). On a yearly basis, household consumption fell 0.3 percent.

Swedish Household Consumption Falls 0.9% MoM
Sweden's household consumption fell 0.9 percent in May of 2019, following a revised 0.1 percent decrease in the previous month, mainly due to a sharp fall in retail trade, mostly food and beverages (-2.9 percent from 1.7 percent in April); clothing & footwear (-5.1 percent vs 2.5 percent); post & telecommunications (-2.3 percent vs 5.1 percent) and transport (-2.3 percent vs 0.8 percent). Also, purchases of furniture, furnishings, household equipment & consumables slowed (2.0 percent vs 4.3 percent). On the other hand, upward pressure came from restaurants, cafes & hotels (5.1 percent vs -5.6 percent); recreation & culture (0.4 percent vs 0.1 percent) and other goods & services (6.7 percent vs -1.7 percent). On a yearly basis, household consumption fell 1.0 percent, after a 0.2 percent rise in April.
