UK Construction New Orders Tumble in Q2
New orders for construction in the United Kingdom slumped 4.7 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019, following a 6.6 percent growth in the previous period. Demand for all new housing contracted for the fifth consecutive quarter (-7.7 percent vs -23.1 percent in Q1), led by public (-41.4 percent vs -7.7 percent) and private (-4 percent vs -24.1 percent). In addition, orders for all other work dropped (-3.2 percent vs 26.1 percent), due to private industrial (-12.8 percent vs -7.5 percent) and private commercial (-10.5 percent vs 32.6 percent). Demand for infrastructure rose at a softer rate (7 percent vs 39.8 percent).

UK Construction New Orders Rebound in Q1
New orders for construction in the United Kingdom rose 6.6 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019, following a downwardly revised 10.3 percent slump in the previous period. All other work jumped 26 percent (vs -11.7 percent in Q4), amid gains in private commercial (32.8 percent vs -2.3 percent) and the public segment (24.2 percent vs 6.8 percent) while orders slipped in private industrial (-7.8 percent vs 29.6 percent). Also, orders surged for infrastructure (39.2 percent vs -37.7 percent). In contrast, they fell sharply for all new housing (-24.3 percent vs -6.9 percent). Compared with the previous period, new orders for construction grew 9.6 percent, after a downwardly revised 0.4 percent drop in the fourth quarter of 2018.

UK Construction Orders Fall 10.5% YoY in Q4
New orders for construction in the United Kingdom declined 10.5 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2018, following an upwardly revised 31.4 percent slump in the previous period. All other work fell at a softer 12.1 percent (vs -37.1 percent in Q3), aided by gains in private industrial (29.6 percent vs -10.1 percent) and the pubic segment (5.6 percent vs 10.9 percent) while orders continued to decrease in private commercial (-2.5 percent vs -0.3 percent). Also, orders declined less for infrastructure (-37.9 percent vs -69.9 percent) and all new housing (-6.8 percent vs -14.1 percent). Compared with the previous period, new orders for construction decreased 1.9 percent, after a downwardly revised 3.1 percent decline in the third quarter of the year. In 2018, construction orders fell 15.8 percent compared to a 4.1 percent rise in 2017.
